Remy Piercing Services

The Art of Safe Piercing

A piercing is more than just jewelry on skin. It is a milestone, a fashion statement, and a way to celebrate your individuality. However, because a piercing creates an open channel in your body, the safety, skill, and tools involved in the process are absolutely critical. We prioritize safety and aesthetics above all else, ensuring that every client leaves feeling confident and cared for.

Our Safety & Hygiene Protocols

At Remy Studio, your health is our priority. We maintain a clinical environment to eliminate risks of contamination and ensure smooth healing:

  • No Piercing Guns: We use only single-use, medical-grade hollow needles. Piercing guns cause blunt-force tissue trauma and cannot be fully sterilized in an autoclave.
  • Autoclave Sterilization: All tools and initial jewelry undergo medical autoclave sterilization before touching your skin.
  • Premium Jewelry Materials: We use only implant-grade titanium (ASTM F-136), niobium, or 14k/18k solid gold for initial piercings to prevent allergic reactions and minimize irritation.
  • Certified Piercers: Our team is fully trained in anatomy, cross-contamination prevention, and bloodborne pathogens safety.

Healing Timeline Estimates

Healing times depend heavily on blood flow to the area. Cartilage has limited blood flow and takes longer to heal compared to fleshy areas like lobes or the tongue:

Piercing Location Estimated Healing Time
Ear Lobe 6 – 8 Weeks
Nose Septum 2 – 3 Months
Nose Nostril 4 – 6 Months
Piercing Location Estimated Healing Time
Ear Cartilage (Helix, Conch, Tragus) 6 – 12 Months
Navel (Belly Button) 6 – 9 Months
Lip & Tongue 2 – 3 Months

Standard Aftercare Instructions

Proper aftercare is 50% of the piercing process. Follow these core guidelines for a safe, comfortable, and infection-free healing experience:

Piercing Aftercare Cleaning Routine
Recommended Clean Routine
  • Clean Twice Daily: Spray sterile saline solution directly onto the piercing, or apply using a clean non-woven gauze pad. Gently wipe away any softened crust.
  • Keep It Dry: Gently pat the area dry with a clean disposable paper towel. Leave-on moisture can cause irritation and bacteria buildup.
  • Leave It Alone: Let the body heal itself naturally. Normal healing includes minor swelling, light crusting, and tenderness.
What to avoid during piercing healing
Critical Things to Avoid
  • DO NOT Touch or Rotate: Twisting or rotating jewelry tears the delicate tissue channel. Do not pick at crusts, and avoid sleeping directly on fresh ear piercings.
  • Avoid Swimming: Keep the piercing completely out of pools, hot tubs, lakes, and oceans until fully healed to prevent chemical irritation and bacterial infections.
  • No Harsh Chemicals: Never clean your piercing with rubbing alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, Dettol, tea tree oil, or heavy ointments, as they kill new skin cells.
Piercing FAQs

Here are the most common questions our clients ask about body and ear piercings. Click on any question to view the answer.

  • How painful is getting a piercing?
The pain of a piercing is very brief—usually lasting just a second. Ear lobes are the least painful (often rated 1-2/10). Cartilage and nose piercings sting slightly more (3-5/10) because the tissue is denser, but the discomfort subsides almost immediately into a warm, dull throb. We use optimized, extremely sharp needles to make the process as quick and painless as possible.
  • What metals do you use for new piercings?
We exclusively use implant-grade metals for initial piercings to prevent allergic reactions. Our top choice is implant-grade titanium (ASTM F-136), which is biocompatible, lightweight, and nickel-free. We also offer solid 14k/18k gold and niobium. We avoid low-quality surgical steel and costume jewelry for fresh piercings as they contain trace amounts of nickel, which frequently triggers irritation or rejection.
  • Can I bring my own jewelry to be pierced with?
No, we do not pierce clients with outside jewelry. For safety and liability reasons, initial jewelry must be sterilized in our autoclave and must meet strict implant-grade materials standards. Outside jewelry often has incorrect sizing, micro-scratches, or metal compositions that can lead to severe swelling, infections, and prolonged healing. Once your piercing is fully healed, we are happy to help you swap it out with your personal jewelry!
  • Can I sleep on a new ear piercing?
We strongly recommend avoiding sleeping directly on a healing ear piercing. The constant pressure can cause the angle of the piercing to shift (causing migration), induce severe swelling, or lead to irritation bumps. If you are a side sleeper, we recommend using a travel/donut pillow and placing your ear in the center hole to avoid contact with the mattress.
  • What should I do if my piercing gets a bump?
Most bumps that appear around a fresh piercing are not infections, but rather irritation bumps. They are usually caused by friction, sleeping on the piercing, touching/twisting the jewelry, or aggressive cleaning. Keep cleaning with saline twice daily, make sure you don't touch or sleep on it, and do not squeeze or pop it. If it doesn't improve, visit our studio so our professional piercers can check the angle, fit, and jewelry length.
  • When can I change my initial piercing jewelry?
You should not change the jewelry until the piercing is completely healed. Changing jewelry too early can damage the delicate fistula (healing channel), introduce bacteria, or cause the channel to close up almost instantly. The only exception is if your initial jewelry needs to be "downsized" to a shorter bar by a professional piercer after initial swelling goes down (usually after 4-6 weeks).
  • Why don't you use piercing guns?
Piercing guns use blunt force to push a relatively dull stud directly through the skin, causing severe tissue trauma, bruising, and scarring (especially in cartilage). Furthermore, piercing guns are made of plastic and cannot be sterilized in an autoclave, meaning they can harbor bloodborne pathogens from previous clients. We use sterile, single-use hollow needles that slice a clean path with minimal trauma, leading to significantly faster and cleaner healing.
  • How do I know if my piercing is infected?
Mild redness, swelling, tenderness, and a clear or slightly yellow fluid that dries into crusts are all normal parts of the healing process. Signs of a true infection include: intense throbbing pain, worsening swelling, skin that feels very hot to the touch, thick green or foul-smelling pus, and fever. If you suspect an infection, do not remove the jewelry (as this can trap the infection inside) and contact us or a medical professional immediately.
